LEANTECHNIK has developed the mechanical arrest system (ASS) for securing stationary plant and equipment. When in use, the pneumatic cylinder is vented, causing the rack to move towards the rack-and-pinion under spring pressure. The system then lowers at a very slow speed until the rack is fully engaged with the rack and pinion. A second inductive switch signals this to the control system, which immediately stops the lowering movement.

The stepless holding brake (SHB) can be used to secure systems and system components against unintentional lowering whilst the system is in operation. The operating principle is as follows: when the brake is pressurised to the required operating pressure, the clamping element is released. When the pressure is relieved, the pre-tensioned disc spring presses against the clamping element and secures the profiled rail.

The SHB operates on the fail-safe principle: it securely clamps moving loads even in the event of a sudden failure of the pneumatic system and can therefore also be used as a safety brake. This enhances system safety whilst simultaneously improving the machine’s process accuracy, as the backlash-free clamping further stiffens the NC axis.
